Wax Paper Resist Technique

Hi everyone!  Here is my card I made using the Wax Paper Resist Technique on the background.  I think it really gives the look of animal print.  I just scrunched up a piece of wax paper for this look.  Please check out the video to see how I did this.  You can also use embossing folders to get so many different looks.  It is a bit like watercolor in that you never get two the same!

First Christmas Card for 2013!

First Christmas card for 2013!  I stamped everything with VersaMark and used White embossing powder.  I then colored the pointsettia with Stampin Up markers Real Red, Cherry Cobbler and Summer Starfruit.  The dimensions are:

Crumb cake:  Card base 5 1/2 x 8 scored at 4 1/4; 3 3/4 x 5 and 2 5/8 x 3 5/8.
Whisper White:  4 x 5 1/4 and 2 7/8 x 3 7/8.  I used dimensionals on the Crumb Cake card stock.  This is cased from Ariane McC but I changed the stamp and colors.

Blooming with Kindness tied up with a bow.

OK, time to play!  I have a couple of things going on here.  I saw this bow being made by France Martin.  So cute and I really like it on this card.  I also framed the sentiment instead of the flower.  Here is how I did it:

I stamped the flower in Crisp Cantaloupe and used the sponge dauber with Strawberry Slush all around the outside edges.  I used the blender pen to remove the ink from the stem and colored it using a Gumball Green marker.  I Then stamped the greeting in Early Espresso.  I used the oval Designer Frame to center the greeting, not the flower.  I used the bottom right one.

Now for the bow:  Next I used two punches.  Extra Large Oval and Scallop Oval and cut one piece 4 x 3/4 and cut points on the end.  I actually used the Hexagon Punch, but you can use a scissors.  I cut both ovals in half.  I used my bone folder to curl the edges on all three cut outs.

I used my grid sheet to get the middle and put two dimensionals on both sides.

First place the large oval with the curve ends touching in the middle over the dimensionals.

Now put two more dimensionals on the middle of your bow.

Add the scallop oval with the curve end touching in the middle.

I now used my Boho Blossoms Punch for the middle of the bow.  Two of these I punched in Very Vanilla and one in DSP.  The vanilla I sponged the edges in Gumball Green.  I layered them in the middle of my bow with glue dots and added a pearl.

I stamped the inside with the same flower and colors.  The card stock is Strawberry slush 41/4 x 11 and scored at 5 1/2.  The next layer is Very Vanilla measuring 4 x 5 1/4.  The next layer is Crisp Cantaloupe and it was run through the Big Shot with the Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the Holiday Catalog.  It measured 3 3/4 x 5.

Well that is it everyone.  What do you think?

Watercolor and Sponging Techniques

Watercolor Technique

Sponging Technique

Ok, finally I made a video of the cards I made using these techniques a couple of weeks ago.

The first card I made (on top) was using the watercolor technique.  I used watercolor paper #122959 for our top note die, also for the black frame behind it.  I cut this in half to make a border of black on top and bottom.  I used the Extra Large Oval punch #119859 in black and the Scallop Oval Punch #119856 in So Saffron.  Added some Summer Starfruit ribbon #126846, I thought that matched the So Saffron paper pretty good.  All of this was on a So Saffron card stock that measured 4 1/2 x 11 - scored at 5 1/2.  That's it!

The second card is using the sponging technique.  I used the following ink pads:

  1. Calypso Coral #126983
  2. Pear Pizzazz #131180
  3. So Saffron #126957
  4. Soft Sky #131181

 The card measurements are:

  • Whisper White card base is 4 1/2 x 11, scored at 5 1/2
  • Basic Black card stock is 3 1/2 x 4 3/4
  • Whisper White card stock is 3 1/4 x 4 1/2

Telescoping Technique

I saw some cards on display at a craft store a couple of years ago.  I was so impressed and I wanted to learn how to do it.  It looks hard but really is not, especially with Stampin Up framelits and coordinating stamps.  The stamp on the card I used is retired - sadly.  I did not realize this when I make this card and video, but we do have the stamp set Apothecary Art and the Label Framelit.  I kept thinking I needed something on this card (maybe some designer paper or embossing folder) but I did want to emphasize the Telescoping Technique.

I used:

  • Crumb Cake 4 1/2 x 11 - scored at 5 1/2
  • Marina Mist 4 5/16 x 4 1/8
  • Used Adorning Accents Edgelits on the bottom of the Marina Mist and Corner punch on the top.
  • Musical Notes Wheel for the background on the large heart with sponging using Crumb Cake ink to distress it.
  • Distressed around the edges of the entire card using Crumb Cake.
  • Stamped Happiest Birthday with Soft Suede.

I used the following products:

Hearts Collection Framelit #125599
Labels Collection Framelit #125598
Retired Take It to Heart Stamp Set
Apothecary  Art CM #125527 WM #128415
Adorning Accents Edgelits #125595
Corner Punch #119871
Marina Mist Ink Pad #125952
Crumb Cake Ink Pad #126975
Soft Suede Ink Pad #126978
Marina Mist Card Stock #119682
Crumb Cake Card Stock #120953
 Musical Notes Wheel #120327
Big Shot Machine #113439
Magnetic Platform #130658

Have a wonderful day!  Until next time.

Painter Tape Card!

Wow, I'm so excited!  I saw this technique on Pinterest.  What a wonderful way to use painter tape!  All play and no work!  I use to look at painter's tape and think yuck, I have a whole room to paint; now I can say yea I get to play!  So here is my card:

Wow right!  So easy and a lot of fun!  It's a masculine card too!  Let me show you how I did it:

Here are the supplies I use:
  • Inks:  Blushing Bride #131172. So Saffron #126957, Soft Sky #131181, Sahara Sand #126976, Pistachio Pudding #131177
  • Stamp Set:  Wetlands  clear mount #126697 or wood mount #126695
  • Accessories:  Aqua Painter #103954, Distress Tool #127562 Hardware Clips #129964, Painters Tape, Labels Collection framelits #125598 and Big Shot Machine #113439.
The card base is Sahara Sand and it measures 11 x 5 1/2 score at 4 1/4.
1 piece of Very Vanilla card stock measuring 5 1/4 x 4

Take your painter tape and lightly blot it on your ink pad to pick up the ink.  Sticky side down.

Put it on your very vanilla card stock to transfer the ink from the tape to your card stock.

Gently remove the tape from the card stock.  Painter tape has a light adhesive that makes it easy to remove.  The first color I used is So Saffron.

You can do one strip at a time or all at once.  You can still see the ink through the tape so placement is easy.  You can also reuse a strip of tape.

Yea! Isn't that cool?  I love this.  The order are So Saffron, Pistachio Pudding, Blushing Bride, Sahara Sand and Soft Sky.  (notice how all of the colors are a double consonant?  All Stampin Up colors are like that......  Just a 'Stampin Up', did you know?)

Now you need a Very Vanilla card stock 2 3/4 square and Sahara Sand card stock 3" square.

Next step is to distress both pieces with the distress tool and sponge the edges with Crumb Cake ink.  This is a masculine card.  Nothing says masculine more to me than distressed. (Ruff around the edges)  Sorry guys.  :-)

Stamp the duck onto the 2 3/4 square vanilla card stock using either Early Espresso or StazOn brown ink.  Since we are going to work with water it is probably better to use the StazOn.  However I was not that smart and used the Early Espresso.  I did however use the heat gun to try and set it before the next step.

Next I stamped Birthday Greeting from this stamp set onto scrap Very Vanilla card stock.  I used the smallest framelit from the Labels Collection and ran it through the big shot.

Now sponge the edges to give the distressed look.

Push the bottom of the ink pad when closed to get some ink on the lid.  Use your Aqua Painter and scribble onto the duck.  Pistachio Pudding, Sahara Sand and Soft Sky.  No mistakes here just scribble away!

Add hardware clip.  I used the arrow, but any of these are great.

Use stampin dimensionals and place your 3" distressed square onto your painter tape background.  I did this crooked, it just seemed to work best.

Put some more stampin dimensionals on your duck and place straight with you background card stock.

Your finished card!  Ta Da!  This measured 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.

I had so much fun with this technique.  Plus, as I said earlier I like using painters tape for fun instead of work!  Please try this, I hope you have as much fun as I did.

Acrylic Block and Aqua Painter Techniques

Finally, I got around to doing a video of two of the techniques I promised.  I will try and do the other two soon!  These techniques are fast and very easy!  You really cannot make mistakes on them.  If you need a card quick, this would be it!

In hind sight, I probably would of 'scribbled' a little darker on this bottom one.  Here is your video.  Hope it helps!

Supplies I used:

  1. Thoughts & Prayers clear mount #127805
  2. Thoughts & Prayers wood mount #128751
  3. So Saffron ink pad #126957
  4. Coastal Cabana ink pad #131175
  5. Crisp Cantaloupe ink pad #131176
  6. Soft Sky ink pad #131181
  7. Marina Mist card stock #119682
  8. So Saffron card stock #105118
  9. Whisper White card stock #100730
  10. Aqua Painter #103954
  11. Acrylic Block bundles #129851 & #118491 (can also be purchased separately)
  12. Silicone Craft Sheet #127853
  13. Multi Purpose Liquid glue #110755
  14. Stylish Stripes embossing folder #132174
  15. Big Shot Die cutting machine #113439

Sympathy cards are so hard to make and we all need them at some time.  I think it is a good idea to make some up ahead of time.  That way when you need a card it is all ready to go.  This stamp set is great for this with all the verses included in the set.  It is also very versatile  and can be used for any occasion.

If you need any product go to our shop now button on the top right hand side.  Thanks for stopping by.

Happy Stampin!

Making cards - my way to say 'I Love You'

These cards are for my grandchildren.  I think making cards say you mean a lot to me.  These three young people mean the world to me.  They all have birthdays coming up.

This young lady will be 9!  Wow, where does the time go.  She plays the piano (if you look close I used the DSP Natural Composition with the musical notes)  She is still my girly girl!
This is the backside of the cascade card.
This card I saw on Pinterest but added the baseball.  My grandson saw me viewing this on Pinterest and said.  Hey look, grandma is looking at Minions!  We had just gone to see the latest movie.
And now we have my youngest.  Growing up so fast and loving life!  Always has a smile on his face.

Until the next post, have a sun filled great day!
